Manchester United fans were left dejected and disappointed after witnessing another poor performance from their team on Saturday. United suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The visiting supporters who made the long trip to Brighton hoped to see a reaction from United after their dreadful 4-0 loss against Brighton earlier in the season. However, the Red Devils produced yet another lackluster display.
Brighton outplayed United across the pitch and took full advantage of the away side’s fragile defense and toothless attack. Graham Potter’s men raced to a 2-0 lead inside the opening 15 minutes through goals from Moises Caicedo and Marc Cucurella.
Although Diogo Dalot pulled one back for United before halftime, Brighton remained in control throughout. Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard scored in the second half to seal a comfortable win for the home side.
United’s traveling fans looked crestfallen throughout the match as their team failed to muster any real challenge. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick watched helplessly from the sidelines.
Some supporters were seen shaking their heads in disappointment while others vented their frustration at the final whistle. There were no signs of the passion expected from United players and fans.
The humiliating defeat means United end the Premier League season with their lowest points total ever. Rangnick’s men limped to a 6th place finish with just 58 points, having lost 10 times.
As United look to rebuild over the summer, their supporters will hope the club can inject some excitement after a wretched campaign. The fans deserve much better than the dreadful displays served up at Brighton and so often this season.
