He may receive $40 million over the course of two years on his new contract with the Bulls.

Though it won’t have much of an impact on the Bulls’ flexibility in the long run, the sum will be substantial—probably more than $40 million a year. With a fair commitment, Chicago would like to retain DeRozan.

Even if the Bulls were to acquire some bench players and ancillary talent, I still don’t see them as legitimate playoff contenders with their current roster.

I believe the Bulls have a shot at surprising some folks next season if they can secure a new home for LaVine and acquire some quality players in exchange. If that doesn’t happen, it will probably be their last season together after all the failed attempts.
