In a shocking recent archaeological discovery, Egyptian researchers have unearthed an ancient mummy dating back 2,500 years from a forgotten cemetery of the ancient Greeks.
This mummy was found in the Taposiris Magna area near Alexandria – where there is a large ancient cemetery of the Greeks who settled in Egypt more than 2,000 years ago. This is a rare archaeological find that provides insight into the mixed Greco-Egyptian culture of the Ptolemaic period.
According to archaeologists, this mummy dates from around the 4th or 3rd century BC. The tomb also contains many artifacts such as pottery, coins and amulets, suggesting the mummy belonged to an official or wealthy member of the ancient Greek community.
